Chemical Storage Regulations

The United States Environmental Protection Agency, or EPA, is a federal government agency that regulates environmental safety. In regards to the storage of chemicals, the EPA has set forth guidelines that companies need to be in compliance with.
(All regulations relating to chemical storage can be found in Section 311 of the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act)

In the industrial and manufacturing setting, chemical storage is highly regulated. Even if a chemical on its own may be considered benign, it will still need to be stored properly due to possible reactions with other chemicals. The EPA has determined that management at these facilities will need to provide Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) to all employees regarding all chemical information: name, concentration, quantity, and hazard causing capability. Labels must be put on all containers holding chemicals, as well as the storage area they are placed in.
